In the late 1980s, Harry Alhadeff, one of the Northwest's most knowledgeable wine retailers and distributors, and Brian Carter, a winemaker of extraordinary depth and experience, launched Apex Cellars.
The combination of Harry's knowledge and experience in the wine business and Brian's uncanny ability to combine the science and art of winemaking resulted in extraordinary wines - and extraordinary success. The first year's production of 22,000 cases sold out in 10 months.
Today Apex Cellars is one of Washington's most respected wineries. Its three brands, Apex, Bridgman and Apex, cover the spectrum of wines from superpremium to super ultrapremium.
Blackthorn Mountain Winery
Blackthorn Mountain Winery is an artisanal winery located in Black Diamond, WA. Started in 2005 by Alistair and Sally Sloley, Blackthorn Mountain Winery specializes in the limited bottling of handcrafted wines. Their wines are created using old world techniques, including sustained maceration and extended lies aging. Reds and whites are aged in neutral oak.
Coyote Canyon Vineyard
Coyote Canyon Vineyard is located in Horse Heaven Hills, a newer AVA that sits high above the Yakima Valley/Prosser to the North and the majestic Columbia River to the south. While being Washington State¹s seventh AVA, Horse Heaven Hills was only the second Washington State AVA selection created due to "specific terroir and climate." Horse Heaven Hills AVA covers over 570,000 acres of seemingly endless cattle ranches, wheat farms and vineyards.
Gordon Brothers Winery
Like many of the finest ideas, the inspiration for Gordon Brothers Family Vineyard sprung from a simple observation. Farmer Jeff Gordon (along with his brother Bill who retired in 1998) noted that Washington State’s bountiful Columbia Valley shared the same latitude as Bordeaux. A student of agriculture, Jeff studied the local microclimate and the rich volcanic soil and became convinced that if properly cultivated, the Columbia Valley was capable of producing excellent wines.
Since the release of its inaugural 138 case lot of Chardonnay in 1985, Gordon Brothers has remained true to a core set of values. First among these is the conviction that quality always takes precedent over quantity. Artisan farmers, the Gordon Brothers proudly put their name on every bottle, and new challenges set by the winery are always measured against the yardstick of consistency. One of only a dozen wineries in Washington that can claim 100 percent estate-grown wines, Gordon Brothers is vineyard-driven, cultivating a complete winemaking process from the earth to the bottle – there is no disconnect between the vineyard and the winemaking.
Now, over twenty years later, Gordon Brothers is a leader in the Washington winemaking boom. Crafting wines from an exceptional piece of land, the Gordon Brothers portfolio of estate wines has grown to include Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Late Harvest Gewürztraminer, Syrah, and their highly acclaimed flagship red blend, “Tradition.”
Pontin Del Roza Winery
For more than 200 years, the Pontin family has been growing grapes and making wine in Italy, France and in the Yakima Valley of Washington. Combine this wine-growing tradition with a pioneering spirit and you have a thumbnail account of the Yakima Valley branch of the family that immigrated to Washington more than 65 years ago. They came to establish their own family farm in the new world, the Pontin Farm, precursor of Pontin Del Roza Winery, located in the wine-hub of Prosser, Washington.
Tapteil Vineyard is located on Red Mountain at the north end of Sunset Road. First planted in 1985, this established vineyard of Cabaret Sauvingnon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc is now the location of a winery featuring estate bottled wines.
The estate wines of Tapteil Vineyard include deep and rich Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and blends which are bottled and cellared at Tapteil Winery.
VineHeart Winery is a boutique family winery producing 2,000 cases of high quality Yakima Valley wines at affordable prices. The estate grown grapes have been hand selected and sorted. Small quantities are harvested at the peak of character with intense fruitiness. Our goal is to create the highest quality wines, with a hint of oak, using few additives.
Willow Crest Winery
Willow Crest Winery was founded in 1995 by David J. Minick, a longtime grape grower in the Yakima Valley. The Minick Family first planted wine grapes on their Roza farm, North of Prosser in 1982. David wanted to take the love he had for raising grapes to next level by making premium wine out of a small portion of the family vineyard.
Focusing on Pinot Gris/Grigio and Syrah Willow Crest Winery uses estate grown fruit that winemaker David J. Minick planted, cultivated, and harvested to create crisp Pinot Gris and bold Syrah’s. By having the control from vine to wine David can monitor crop load, canopy size, sun exposure, and the balance of fruit and sugar at harvest time. All this attention to the grape comes out in Willow Crest wines.
